"Dental vacation" sounds like marketing until you see how the days actually break down: even a busy multi-crown case occupies maybe 12 chair-hours across a week. The rest is Medellín. Here's a real, hour-honest 7-day itinerary for a typical crowns-or-veneers trip — chair time, recovery windows, and what fits around them.
The realistic week
- Day 1 (Sat) — Arrive. Land at MDE, 40-minute ride down the mountain to El Poblado or Laureles. Check in, walk the neighborhood, early night — you're at 4,900 ft and tomorrow starts the real agenda.
- Day 2 (Sun) — Free day. Guatapé day trip (the famous rock and lake town, ~2hrs out) or a gentler city day: Museo de Antioquia, Botero Plaza, Comuna 13's graffiti tour. Big Colombian Sunday lunch.
- Day 3 (Mon) — Clinic day 1. Morning: exam, imaging, digital scans, shade match, prep work; temporaries if crowns/veneers. You'll be numb until mid-afternoon — plan a soft lunch and a coffee-shop afternoon, not a food tour.
- Day 4 (Tue) — Free while the lab works. The in-house lab is milling; you're on the Metrocable to Parque Arví, or poolside. Zero clinical obligations.
- Day 5 (Wed) — Try-in. 1–2 hours: fit, bite, aesthetics check with the technician on site. Afternoon free — Laureles café crawl or a football match at Atanasio if the calendar cooperates.
- Day 6 (Thu) — Final seat. Cementation, occlusion fine-tuning, warranty and records handover (X-rays, lab sheets — your US dentist gets copies). Celebrate with the steak your temporaries vetoed.
- Day 7 (Fri) — Buffer + fly, or stay the weekend. The buffer day matters: if anything needs a tweak, you're still in town. Nothing to tweak? Coffee-farm day trip, then home.
Where to stay
El Poblado: walkable to many clinics, dense with hotels and restaurants, the default for first-timers. Laureles: flatter, more local, quieter nights, increasingly the repeat-visitor favorite.
